Electrification
Côte d’Ivoire has significantly expanded electricity access in recent years, with the national electrification rate rising sharply as grid connections spread across urban and many rural areas in pursuit of universal access by 2030. Despite this progress, a large share of rural households still lack reliable grid power, which has spurred investments in off‑grid solar solutions.
In response, a range of public‑private initiatives and companies are distributing solar home system kits — compact solar panels with batteries that provide lighting, phone charging, and power for small appliances — often through pay‑as‑you‑go or leased models to make them affordable for rural families. These solar kits have been rolled out in numerous communities, bringing clean, dependable energy to homes, schools and health centres beyond the reach of the main grid.
